Foundation Framework Tutorials & Resources

If you’re just learning about Foundation or needing to learn a little more then look no further, this article is dedicated to just that!  In the spirit of covering all the bases, I have decided to post beginner, advanced, and then an all around complete resource for the framework.  If you’re not sure what Foundation is and just simply stumbled upon this post, then check out the video below for a little introduction and a small glimpse into the power of Foundation 5.

Foundation For Beginners

We all have to start somewhere, and after scouring the web for some good tutorials and videos for beginners I ran across this little set of vids.  This video covers the basics of what Foundation is built upon…. GRIDS!  Topics cover the use of small, medium, and large grids from basic to intermediate setup, the setting up of the grid system for mobile, nesting grids, and of course the basics of how to set up a new project and getting started.  This video is nice because I think it takes a slow practical approach to teaching the system, and think it covers the most important part of Foundation which is its grid system and shows you just how powerful it can be!

Advanced Foundation Techniques

Now that you have the basics down, and have watched both the prior videos, this one covers more advanced topics such as modals, sliders, slideshows, carousels, and tool-tips.  The author is the same from the first video, and like that one goes at a pace that is easy to keep up with, and explains why he makes the changes he does, and is very easy to follow along with.  By the time you are done with this tutorial, you should be able to do more advanced techniques with ease and of course have a much better understand of how Foundation works.

Up & Running With Foundation 5

If you’re looking for an all around place that covers Foundation from start to finish, then look no further than Lynda.com.  Lynda is one of my favorite sites for learning, and you will be hard pressed to find any topic that isn’t covered there.  When i was first learning Foundation for my WEB 141 class, I turned to Lynda, and within a few hours was able to produce a decent site with minimal effort.  This tutorial not only lets you watch, but also allows you to follow along.  There is ONE catch…. you have to be a member.  If you’re not already, then I encourage you to go sign up for a trial, and you will not be disappointed.  Some of you may be lucky like me, and your school may have an agreement setup that allows us the students to use it for free.  If you’re in college, then don’t just assume you don’t…. go ask!  If you’re not so lucky, then consider joining, it’s an amazing place.
